Festival Queen to be crowned today


The highly anticipated Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Grand Coronation will be held today, Monday, August 1 at the Independence Village, Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, starting at 8:00 p.m. and will see 13 talented and creative young ladies will compete for the coveted crown. The coronation is being held under the 2016 Emancipation and Independence theme, “Let’s Get Together and Feel Alright”.

The 13 parish queens who will compete for the title of Miss Jamaica Festival Queen 2016 are: Miss St.  Thomas – Shannay Williams, Miss Kingston and St. Andrew – Shanique Shand, Miss St. Catherine – Godiva Golding, Miss Clarendon – Meisha Richardson, Miss Manchester – Sharmica Holness, Miss St. Elizabeth – Ann-Marie Elliott, Miss Westmoreland – Feleisha Samuels, Miss Hanover – Chevaun Gray, Miss St. James – Kyesha Randall, Miss Trelawny – Kacia Whilby, Miss St. Ann, Khadena Matthews, Miss St. Mary – Monique Patrice Robb and Miss Portland – Kristina Newby.

In addition to the crown, these cultural ambassadors are also competing for attractive prizes including over a million dollars in cash and prizes from sponsors such as CHASE Fund, Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation, Tourism Enhancement Fund, Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, Kirk Distributors, Lasco Financial Services, Excelsior, Spring Time, Jergens/Biore, Christar Villas and the Digicel Foundation.

According to the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Stephen Davidson “the 2016 Parish Queens are impressive and brilliant young ladies who are determined to make their own stamp on the competition while contributing to community and national development.”

Davidson also encourages persons to come out to this year’s Grand Coronation as “It promises to be an exceptional show.”

Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Thriller U, Adazeh Band and Querido “Quecee” Howell.
