High charging artiste killing dancehall – Nuffy

MC Nuffy is calling out the artistes who he claims are overcharging promoters saying that they are killing the dancehall business.

According to a story in the Star he was lashing out at the artiste overcharging Supreme Promotions – promoter of the annual event Sting.

The MC who also manages artistes said some artistes are charging in the region of 2-3 million dollars and they are showing no respect for the contribution the over 30-year-old show has made in the development of the music industry.

“I would say this must be the brand of Jamaica dancehall music … . Sting is the gateway for over 90 per cent of the stars today in dancehall … . To the dancehall artistes in Jamaica, stop overcharge the Jamaican brand, stop disrespect what we have,” MC Nuffy posted on his social-media page.

“The people on the outside don’t know nothing much about the music business. So sometimes you hear the entertainers complaining and they think they are hurting Mr Laing, but they are hurting themselves, because if Sting mash up, what’s next?” he questioned.
However, one comment under the story goes directly to the heart of why some artistes who have now made it big may be over charging.

“”Nuffy you never know that when yuh deh a New York a tell man say fi give US$5000 fi put them unknown artist on Sting remember say most upcoming artist had to pay Laing to work Sting back in the days, so it’s a dog eat dog world.”
