Ephraim Martin got a huge surprise with six unexpected Awards at the end of the successful 35th International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) and his 100th Annual Special Entertainment Production last Sunday night in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The Awards were presented to him by The City of Coral Springs Vice Mayor- Dan Daley, VP Records owner Ms. Pat Chin, JungleDom and companies representing various African Countries, and by his wife the Hon. Shelvin L. M. Hall – Justice of the Illinois Appellate Court, on behalf Martin’s International Team and Family.
In his speech Ephraim called on President Barack Obama, to do one of the most important things for the Black community, before leaving office. That is to “Grant The Most Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey a Posthumous Presidential Pardon of His 1923 Conviction and Mail Fraud!
Some 50 Awards were presented to the best of Reggae and World Music Entertainers for the year- 2015/16. Cedella Marley, in addition to receiving a Lifetime Award, won the Marcus Garvey Humanitarian honor. Skip Marley her son won the Best New Entertainer Award.
Reggae star Tarrus Riley and Haitian singer J Beatz each captured 2 Awards. Morgan Heritage copped the Album of the year, while Nesbeth walked away with the Best Song Award. Spice took the Best Female Dancehall Award, as VYBZ Kartel took the Male Dancehall honor. Bob Marley Award of Honor went to Popcaan, as Christopher Martin and Etana took the Best Male and Best Female Vocalist; respectively.
