On Saturday, May 7, 2017, on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston a 63-year-old man was hit by a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus.
Approximately, 12:15 pm while one of the JUTC buses was travelling along Marcus Garvey Drive, heading towards Chancery Street from downtown Kingston when the tragic incident occurred according to reports from the State-run bus company.
The 63-year-old man succumbed to the injuries he received after being hit by the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus. The senior citizen has been identified as Ashley Garvey of a Spanish Town, St Catherine address.
It is alleged that on reaching the vicinity of the JPS power station, Ashley Garvey reportedly jumped over the median that separates the dual carriageway into the path of the bus, which resulted in the breakage of the windscreen. The elderly man was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver has been taken off frontline duty while a probe continues into the tragic incident.
It is also reported that the driver of the JUTC bus is traumatised by the ordeal, and provision for counseling has been arranged.
The JUTC stated that the matter was reported to the police.
