Mass Ran Tribute Concert Set October 26

In honour of the late Jamaican cultural icon, Randolph Samuel Williams, CD popularly known as Ranny Williams or Maas Ran, the Kingston & St. Andrew Parish Office of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will partner with Airports Authority of Jamaica to host a lunch hour tribute concert at the Norman Manley International Airport Arrivals Forecourt on Wednesday, October 26, starting at 12:00 noon.  This celebration is to reflect on the life and contributions of this cultural icon on the 104th anniversary of his birth.

According to Paulette Sutherland, JCDC Parish Manager for Kingston & St. Andrew, “ the JCDC an Agency of the Ministry of Culture, Gender Entertainment & Sport is honoured to continue to highlight the work of this great man who dedicated his entire life to cultural development. Sutherland also noted that the popular Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre was named in his honour. The concert is free and open to the public.

The tribute concert will feature outstanding performers from the JCDC National Festival of the Performing Arts Competition, the Miss Kingston & St. Andrew Festival Queen 2016, Shanique Shand and other performers. There will also be a display on the life and work of this great Jamaica cultural icon.

Maas Ran was a highly respected prolific, dramatist, comedian, folklorist and social activist.  He was an active member of the LTM Pantomimes were he performed in over 29 Pantomimes. He and Miss Lou worked on the “Lou and Ranny Show” which ran on JBC in 1958. It was a very popular programme that was tuned into on Sunday evenings. Ranny also did the Ranny Williams TV Show on JBC TV. When Miss Lou had her own television series “Ring Ding” Ranny was guest performer and also hosted the show.

The concert is sponsored by the Norman Manley International Airport.
