Notis Heavyweight Rockaz Gets Noticed By BBC 1Xtra

The musical outfit that is Wayne ‘Unga’ Thompson and Jason ‘Big Bass’ Welsh better known as Notis Records formerly Notice Production continues to explore their creativity resulting in the evolution of the group into Notis Heavyweight Rockaz and well… The right people have already started taking notice.

Credited with major hits such as Ding Dong & Chevaughn’s ‘Holiday’, Future Fambo’ ‘This Life’ added to the remix featuring Mavado;  and more recently Iba Mahr’s Diamond Sox amid a top 10 spot on the Billboard Reggae Chart for their Heart & Soul rhythm project (Busy Signal – Come Over) Notis Records has caught the attention of British based media outlet BBC 1Xtra which did a series of recordings as part of an ongoing documentary chronicling noteworthy happenings in the reggae and dancehall space.

The undertaking has resulted in a buzz worthy live session featuring Unga (Producer/Drummer) and Welsh (Bass) among other instrumentalist showcasing what has been dubbed as a masterfully crafted  piece of work by many industry players. The video encapsulating the event can be seen on the official website of BBC 1Xtra.

In the eight minute-long visual the group presents a live rendition of their single ‘Rocky Road’, a performance which signals a number of firsts for the Duo.

First single off their Crossroads riddim (also featuring Jessie Royal, Kabaka Pyramid, Chevaughn, and Bushman) and the first time that they themselves have put their vocals on a single.

Now making the rounds on various social media platforms the video has amassed over 73,000 views on Facebook already and continues to steadily gain momentum on Youtube and other digital platforms.  ‘Rocky Road’ is a groovy roots rock reggae composition that speaks to perils and challenges along life’s journey while highlighting that with belief, faith and good work ethic the vision cane become a reality.

Based on the current success that embodies ‘Rocky Road’ an official video has been shot throughout the thoroughfares of Manchester and St. Elizabeth under the direction of Jay Will through the watchful eyes of Benjamin Zecher.

The story depicts a tale of two young boys (Unga & Welsh) growing up in humble beginnings and departing their respective hometowns in pursuit of their musical dreams. Amid the individual perils the journey sees the two crossing path and ultimately becoming a unit.

Connoisseurs of their craft the rhythm duo consisting of Unga and Welsh is set to unravel a number of projects encapsulating the authenticity of Jamaican roots culture in the weeks ahead.
