Last night’s final rally before tomorrow’s election was interrupted by gunshots and a mass stampede with over 30 people including children being injured.
Two people were shot also.
It was a chaotic evening for the Kingston Public Hospital as the injured were rushed for treatment.
President of the People’s National Party Portia Simpson Miller visited and the assurance was given by Phillip Paulwell that they would do all they can for the victims.
The incident took place shortly after 9 o’clock while PNP President Portia Simpson was on the platform with several other Party members. The crowd was in a festive mood and the stage was set for a last push by the PNP President for voters.
While there is sympathy for those who have been injured the opportunity must be taken to stress that a political rally is not the place for children.
