Many dancehall fans will tell you that ‘Weed Is My Best Friend’ artiste, Popcaan, is “di General”.
Popcaan’s fan base has swelled mightily in the past couple years, as he has dominated the scene, winning the coveted MOBO Award in 2015 and moving from strength to strength. A very likeable person, it is clear that “Popcaan grow good” as we would say in Jamaica.
It was therefore not surprising to read a prayer to the Almighty that Popcaan wrote while attending primary school. The artiste posted it on his Instagram Page for all his fans to see, and the response was overwhelming. One of the most touching aspects of the story is that the letter was carefully put away for years and his grandmother found it recently and gave it to him.
“I wrote this prayer when I was going to primary school.. My grandma found it in one of my books the other day while cleaning her house. I jus want to say God is real and he did answer that prayer I pray to him a long time ago #givethanks,” Popcaan wrote.
Get a handkerchief and start to read, you might just need it:
“Dear God, I know you are fine. I’m asking you please to let me prosper in life. And please Lord let my grandmother and grandfather live to inherit whatever I get in life. Lord please let my big brother and sister do inherit what I get also. I am asking you to open my brain in school to take whatever I get in school. Lord I look to you one more time. Let even my mother and father inherit too Lord. This is my prayer. Your son, Andrae Sutherland,”
(Awwwwww. That’s so sweet.)
And God answers prayers.
