It was a solemn farewell for Ann-Marie Elliot, the late wife of rggae singer Nesbeth, inside the New Life Assembly of God Church in St Andrew on Saturday.
Trying his best to put on a brave face for the sake of his children who sat beside him, the ‘My Dream’ singer succeeded in holding back his tears, but his grief was very apparent. Dressed in a black pants, black and white shirt, a red bow tie and proudly wearing his wedding band, Nesbeth, kept his arm around the shoulder of his little son, who whispered in his ear from time to time.
Family members, friends and well-wishers who came out to pay their last respects conformed to the funeral code for the most part and many hid their tear-stained eyes and faces behind dark glasses. One mourner, a young man, even had the name ‘Ann-Marie’ spelled out in his hair.
However, in the midst of the mourning and the final good-bye , there was also reason for rejoicing, as four precious souls made the decision there and then to walk in newness of life. In front of a packed congregation, three women and one man heeded the officiating minister’s call to get their life right with God “right now”.
There is nothing like the finality of death that can wake up a person to his own mortality and stir a desire to live a new life and the congregation gave their full support to the decision made by these four persons.
Ann-Marie Elliot died three weeks ago in the United States of undisclosed complications at the age of 32.
