Following the shooting death of the Tax Office employee, Keneisha McKenzie Gayle, who was shot by her spouse, the office was closed for business on Wednesday to facilitate counselling of employees.
Police reported that the victim, a 34-year-old mother of two, Keneisha McKenzie Gayle of New Green in Mandeville, was pronounced dead at the hospital about 7:00 in the morning.
According to the police 37-year-old electrician and licensed firearm holder, who drove the victim to the hospital then turned himself over to the Mandeville police and reported that McKenzie Gayle, with whom he had a romantic relationship for several months, was shot accidentally.
The electrician reportedly told police he was getting dressed for work at about 6:20 am and was handling his firearm when it was accidentally triggered and a lone bullet hit McKenzie Gayle in the upper body.
Tax Administration Jamaica, in a release yesterday, said it would continue its ongoing counselling of employees to ensure the smooth restoration of normal operations at the Mandeville location.
On Wednesday, the Manchester police said that they are keeping an open mind regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of the tax office employee in this south-central town.
